X-Air Australia has proudly supported the Australian recreational aviation community since 1998. Over the years, we’ve delivered more than 170 X-Air Aircraft across the country, earning a reputation for simplicity, safety, and affordability in light sport aviation.
We’re excited to share some fantastic news about the future of X-Air. After a period of uncertainty surrounding the global availability of genuine parts and aircraft, we can now confirm that X-Air is entering a new era of clarity and support.
The manufacturing rights and intellectual property for X-Air aircraft have officially transitioned from the original French designer, Joel Koechlin of Raj Hamsa Ultralights, to Arvind Aviation several years ago and to Annu Aviation, from February 16, 2025. Annu Aviation is now the sole manufacturer and IP holder for all X-Air components and aircraft worldwide, with the exception of the fabric sails, which remain with Arvind Aviation.
This change brings renewed confidence to X-Air owners and enthusiasts.
Genuine parts and new airframe kits will now be available through a trusted dealer network, with most parts shipping directly from stock or within 14 days. Airframe kit lead times will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
To ensure quality and consistency, Annu Aviation has committed to working exclusively with established dealers in each region. This means Australian customers will continue to receive local support and fast access to authentic X-Air parts and products, right here through X-Air Australia.
We currently hold over US$10,000 worth of genuine parts in local inventory, available for immediate dispatch. We’re thrilled to be working closely with Annu Aviation to fill any gaps and maintain a reliable parts supply chain for legacy and new aircraft alike.
This is a fresh and exciting chapter for the X-Air brand. We’re here to provide ongoing support to our loyal community and new pilots discovering the joy of X-Air ownership.

X-Air Australia – was one of the first aviation companies on the internet from August 1998.
Profile & Business Background
X-Air Australia was founded in July 1998 with the importation of the first two X-Air aircraft into Mudgee, Central New South Wales. One of these aircraft was sold to the Mudgee District Sport Aviation Club (MDSAC) as a club aircraft—remarkably, it’s still flying today—while the second was retained for evaluation and demonstration purposes.
At the time, registering innovative light aircraft such as the X-Air in Australia presented a significant challenge due to restrictive certification requirements. However, we successfully operated the aircraft under a special permit until the introduction of the Amateur-Built Aircraft Category in 1999, which opened the door for broader acceptance and registration.
With increasing exposure through airshows and positive reviews from the aviation press, sales quickly gained momentum. The X-Air soon became one of the most popular light aircraft in Australia, with over 100 aircraft flying across the country. Our reach has since extended beyond Australia’s borders, with X-Air aircraft now found across New Zealand, Indonesia, and throughout Australasia—from Cairns to Tasmania, Perth to the Pacific Islands.
Originally established by Michael Coates as one of several business ventures in Mudgee, the company underwent a strategic shift in February 2000, when Michael sold his photographic and graphic arts divisions to focus solely on aviation. The Coates family relocated to Queensland’s Gold Coast, where they purchased and outfitted a dedicated factory complex, complete with a workshop, inventory facility, and aircraft assembly area.
Today, X-Air Australia is the official importer and regional distributor for X-Air aircraft. We proudly manage sales, service, spare parts, and support across Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific region, continuing our mission to make safe, affordable, and enjoyable flying accessible to all.
